Seriously?!? - Teens & Sex Toys: A Sticky Subject

Copied from Shannon's blog:
Teens & Sex Toys: A Sticky Subject
Many readers have emailed lately asking what I thought of the recent Oprah episode where Dr. Laura Berman discussed what all we should be telling our pre-teen and teenage daughters about sex.I thought I’d go ahead and blog about it, because I’d love to hear your feedback too... With scriptures...

Treatise of the Graduate Internship

As Graduate Interns we have responded to the call to aggressively and passionately pursue our own self-development (Philippians 2:13) and that of each individual within our sphere of influence.

It is our responsibility to clearly mark the path enabling others to follow as we follow the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1) We are perfectly united in mind and thought (2 Corinthians 13:11, Philippians 2:2, and 2 Chronicles 30:12), standing in one spirit, contending as one man, proclaiming Christ as one voice to this generation. (Philippians 1:27, and Romans 15: 5-6) Our leadership is based on a selfless sense of duty (1 Kings 12:7, and Philippians 2:4) that demands that we surpass what is expected of ourselves and of those with whom we serve (Matthew 25:19-21). We were designed (Psalms 139:13-16) for accomplishment (Romans 8:28-32), intended for success (Proverbs 16:3, and Psalms 20:4) and endowed with seeds of greatness (1 Peter 1:23). We are not limited by the place of our birth, color of skin (Galatians3:28) but the size of our hope (1 Timothy 4:9-10, and 1 Timothy 6:17) and faith (Matthew 17:20-21, Matthew 21:21-22, and Hebrews 11) in our God.  We now live by his presence (Hosea 6:2, and Psalms 89:15-17), we lean on his faith (Romans 12:3) and, we love by patience (1 Corinthians 13:4), and we lift by prayer (Philippians 4:6, and 1 Thessalonians 5:16) and labor by power (2 Peter 1:3, and Acts 1:8).

Challenges ahead will frequently bring pain (1 Peter 4:12) but pain is temporary while growth is permanent. We believe that those challenges will form the strongest moral foundation that will produce the leaders who best reflect the legacy of the Honor Academy (James 1:2-4). This is our conviction and true commitment to ourselves and to God from which we will not back down.

Sometimes we need a reminder.

Tip 160 -- Remember Why You Do What You Do
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I once had an interesting conversation with a woman on a flight to Minneapolis. We were both flying for business reasons, so we talked shop at first. Then the conversation took a more philosophical turn. We were talking about what motivated people to go into work every day, whatever it is they do. I asked her what motivated her personally.

"It's just what you have to do," was her first, resigned answer. It clearly came from the part of her that was tired from a hectic day on the road.

Then she went to "the pay is good," "I enjoy the work".... Fill in ten more blanks. Finally, she dug deeper, to the root of what got her up and out the door every morning: Her children.

It was a poignant moment as the woman, in the midst of all the chaos of her busy executive lifestyle, suddenly remembered the real reason she endured the long days, the business trips, and the pains of work: her two daughters. Having realized that, she left the flight in a much better mood than she boarded it.

Point is, when your motivation flags, re-engaging with the root of what drives you is a great way to give yourself new energy. So ask yourself, why do you do what you do? Please share it on the Greenlight Community.

A second tip: Use that energy not just to get through the day, but to find a way to do it all better.

Warmest,

Keith

Psalm 121

Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
       he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
       will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
       the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
       nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
       he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
       both now and forevermore.

So often we get consumed with what is going on in our lives... our sin... our failures... the hurdles still to overcome...

For me that is where I frequently get stuck in a rut (ie an elongated grave). Focused on the problem. Holding the reigns and hindering myself from allowing the Lord to move in my life.

A song (one of many) I have been meditating on here recently:
Healer by Kari Jobe

You hold my every moment
You calm my raging seas
You walk with me through fire
And heal all my disease

I trust in You
I trust in You

I believe You're my healer
I believe You are all I need
I believe You're my portion
I believe You're more than enough for me
Jesus, You're all I need

You hold my every moment
You calm my raging seas
You walk with me through fire
And heal all my disease

I trust in You
I trust in You

I believe You're my healer
I believe You are all I need
I believe You're my portion
I believe You're more than enough for me
Jesus, You're all I need

Nothing is impossible for You
Nothing is impossible for You
Nothing is impossible for You
Nothing is impossible for You

The key things I pull out are ...I trust in You...Nothing is impossible for You...

I went to a conference this last weekend and the "take a way truth" for me was a quote one of the speakers said from what the Lord is doing in her life... "You will not be fully abandoned to me [the Lord] until you fully understand my [the Lord's] goodness." When I fully understand the Lord's goodness then the reckless abandonment to Him will flow naturally.

So my prayer for this next season of my life is that I will "Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him" (Psalm 34:8)

InHisSteps13099 - Ten Years Later

Some have heard me say I have been very reflective lately however few of you I imagine have made the connection as to why. InHisSteps13099 my online handle for everything I do online from profiles to IM names to email accounts. It is all the same ID and here is why. TEN years ago on January 30th, 1999 I made a life defining decision to say yes to Jesus. A simple prayer that at the time I didn't even know I was supposed to repeat the prayer of salvation. Thankfully the Lord's grace has abounded in and through my life even from that afternoon at Teen Mania's Acquire The Fire youth event in Minneapolis. As the years pass the memories continue to multiply of the richest blessings that are continually poured out in and through my life.

After that defining decision Katie, who had invited me to the ATF, got me plugged into her churches youth group. Her and Kristy took me to the local Christian bookstore to get me my first Bible. In not knowing anything about anything in regards to faith I spent most of that year doing whatever I saw Katie doing in regards to what it meant to be a Christian. Even to the point that summer at camp they had put me in her age group even though I was 2 grades below her.

By the end of that year my faith was my own and I followed in obedience of the Holy Spirit's prompting to be baptized. A couple months later ATF returned to MN and I went with my church to the convention. During the ATF I felt led to go to the breakout session for this internship program. During which I had a anointed interview with an intern. After Shaina and I were done talking I knew I was supposed to come to the honor academy after I graduated high school.

As my faith continued to go I became heavily involved in service. Including helping out with my high schools bible study "En Fuego", leading Jr. high small groups for youth group camps/retreats, serving on the tech team on my churches worship band. Finding out that I was good at serving and was passionate about helping those around me. Later on I went on mission trips with my youth group to Mexico in 2000 with Teen Mania and again in 2001 with Youth With A Mission.

That fall after I graduated high school I started my Internship at Teen Mania. Little to my knowledge then that I would end up staying 3 years. The short version is you drink from a fire hydrant. While at Teen Mania I was able to learn and grasp what my calling is in life. You hear me say it often... "people are my passion and I am called to share life in Christ with those within my sphere of influence." In graduating/leaving TM I knew MN was no longer home and that the things the Lord wanted to do in my life MN would not be a healthy place for me to go back to.

As a result Tyler became my home. In since moving here 3.5+ years ago I have been blessed with a very full life. So many life lessons: freedom, obedience, patience, openness, trust, discipline, integrity, ect. Beyond the milestones I have only briefly highlighted here I couldn't even begin to share, thank, and describe the richest blessings of my life that have come through my dear friends and mentors over the years. The impact that these people have had in and on my life is beyond priceless. I am who I am by the molding and shaping Jesus did of me through these friendships that have been and are in my life.

As you remember the past you can't help but look to the future. In knowing where I was, where I have been, and where I am now the possibilities are limitless as to what my future will hold. But as I learned long ago... I may not know what my future holds but I know the one who holds my future.

A treasured Daughter of the King,
~Skyla
